Our work in Uganda

Ayuda en Acción Uganda envisions a world where all people have equal opportunities, dignity, and the ability to shape their own futures through inclusive and sustainable development. We work to empower children, women, youth, and marginalized communities in Uganda by promoting sustainable livelihoods, access to quality education, child protection, and humanitarian response.

Our interventions foster resilience, climate adaptation, and economic inclusion. Through strategic partnerships, innovation, and community-driven solutions, we leverage renewable energy, education, and market systems to create lasting social and economic impact while ensuring sustainability and gender equality.

Lines of intervention in Uganda

Sustainable livelihoods & climate resilience

In this line of intervention, we are implementing the SunScale Program. This program is an initiative aimed at enhancing the delivery of productive use of renewable energy (PURE) services in the West Nile and Acholi sub-regions through a Market System Development (MSD) approach. By collaborating with key ecosystem stakeholders, the project addresses challenges in agricultural productivity, women’s empowerment, clean cooking, and climate change resilience. Its core focus areas include expanding access to solar irrigation for smallholder farmers, promoting clean cooking alternatives for households and institutions, integrating off-grid cooling and drying solutions into agricultural value chains, and advancing e-mobility opportunities for women and youth in both rural and urban settings. To achieve these goals, SunScale has facilitated the expansion of private sector actors in the renewable energy sector within the Adjumani, Obongi, and Lamwo districts, ensuring that solar products, such as irrigation pumps and clean cooking stoves, reach underserved host and refugee communities.

Child protection & education

In this line of intervention, we aim at creating a safe and nurturing environment where all children have access to quality education and are protected from harm. Through this program, we empower children to become key advocates for the protection of their rights, we strengthen families through livelihoods as a protection and education mechanism and we establish and strengthen community systems for the protection of children as well as support sustained education and awareness campaigns on child protection and education. One of the primary objectives is to enhance children’s understanding of their rights, allowing them to actively participate in advocating for their protection and education. Through this empowerment, the program aims to instill a sense of responsibility among children to safeguard their own well-being and the well-being of their peers. Sustained education and awareness campaigns form another key component of the program. These campaigns focus on raising awareness about child protection issues and the importance of education for all children.

Humanitarian response

Provide life-saving support to refugees and vulnerable populations while promoting resilience and integration. Our humanitarian action interventions are based on sustainable livelihoods, climate change mitigation and resilience, alongside child protection and education. These initiatives will be adapted to effectively respond to humanitarian crises and settings. Our efforts will ensure that vulnerable populations basic needs will be covered before benefitting from long-term solutions that build resilience against future challenges. This approach will help to empower them to withstand shocks, promote sustainable development and safeguard the well-being and educational needs of children in crisis-affected areas.
