At Ayuda en Acción, we know that humanitarian crises cannot be resolved overnight, but we can work together to overcome them. That is why we are pleased to announce that we have just launched the ECHO HIP 2026 project in Mozambique, a key humanitarian initiative in Cabo Delgado through which we aim to restore access to essential services such as health, nutrition, and education for communities affected by conflict and climate change.
A strong partnership by and for the people
The situation in the Cabo Delgado region, in the north of the country, remains extremely complex. Armed conflict and the impacts of climate change have forced thousands of families to flee their homes, losing their livelihoods and peace of mind. Faced with this reality, we have not stood idly by.
To achieve a real and lasting impact, we have joined forces in a large consortium alongside exceptional partners: Johanniter International, ADPP Mozambique, and ACTED. With the support and funding of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO), we are setting out to change people’s lives.
Our top priority is humanitarian aid that is people-centered, inclusive, and respectful of human dignity. How will we do this? By working in two of the districts that need us most right now: Mocímboa da Praia and Mecúfi.
What does our work involve?
Through this joint effort, we will focus on restoring stability and security to more than 50,000 people through very specific actions:
- Health and nutrition, providing basic medical care and nutritional support to those who need it most, especially children.
- Education and protection, creating safe spaces so that children can continue learning while protected from the dangers of their environment.
- Cash assistance, providing direct financial aid so that families themselves can meet their most urgent needs with autonomy and dignity.
“The humanitarian response in complex settings such as Cabo Delgado requires strong partnerships, close ties with communities, and a firm commitment to dignity and inclusion” (Marga Sanmartín, Director of Ayuda en Acción in Mozambique).
Building resilience for the future
This project does not merely aim to alleviate the immediate humanitarian emergency. Our goal goes far beyond that: we want to give them the tools they need to build their resilience and lead their own recovery efforts. We want these communities to rebuild themselves stronger than ever.
We do not want to miss this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to DG ECHO. Their ongoing support and trust in our work are the driving force that allows us to ensure that no emergency is left behind, no matter how far away it may seem.
