We worked in Ethiopia between 2002 and 2017 through local partners. In 2018, an independent country program was established. We are in Afar, Tigray (before 2020), Oromia and South Ethiopia regions, with national office in Addis Ababa and four area and 16 satellite offices. Our partnership with public and private entities as well as with civil society organizations is key to the sustainability of our impact.

Our first pillar centers on bolstering the output and efficiency of small-scale agriculture and pastoralist livelihoods by fostering inclusive, sustainable market systems and value chains (mango, avocado, moringa, livestock, cereals) to tackle structural barriers and contribute positively to food security in the country. It also aims to improve women’s and youth’s access to meaningful employment by encouraging entrepreneurship and wage-earning opportunities in rural and peri-urban settings. We foster multisectoral and multi-partnership approaches, as well as promoting risk financing, such as crop and livestock insurance and financial inclusion backed by digital services and innovations.
Our second pillar aims at improving the access to quality education by girls and boys in rural areas as well as strengthening the transition from school to the labor market. Social bases and solidarity link are also part of our educative interventions in Arsi and Wolaita.
The third pillar covers Emergency response, Humanitarian assistance, Anticipatory action, Early warning, Disaster preparedness and Resilience building, through a triple nexus approach. It includes food security and restoration of livelihoods; water, sanitation & hygiene promotion (WASH), education in emergencies, mainstreaming child protection & prevention of gender-based violence; and cash programming. In resilience building, we promote risk financing and financial inclusion through digital solutions and innovations, including early warning, climate change adaptive capacities, community-based natural resource management and inclusive systems and institutions’ transformation.
