As we celebrate March 8th, International Women’s Day, at Ayuda en Acción, we want to put women at the center. Specifically, we highlight the importance of women's progress in fostering more inclusive, just, and rights-based communities. Through our campaign “Empowered Women, Thriving Communities”, we shine a light on real stories of women who, thanks to opportunities in employment, education, and entrepreneurship, have built a better future for themselves and those around them.
Stories that inspire
From Latin America to Africa and Europe, these women have shown that with the support of organizations like Ayuda en Acción (and their local partners), dreams can become reality.
Take Claudia from Colombia, for example. She began working with PazSabor chocolate, a project involving 84 families from a cocoa cooperative supported by Ayuda en Acción. Her dream is to see her chocolate cross borders and become famous worldwide.
Then there’s Hayatt from Niger, who found a life-changing opportunity in an enriched flour factory. There, women from her region work to produce essential food for their babies, while also generating income that strengthens their families and communities.
Karina from Nicaragua discovered her passion for beekeeping. Thanks to training from Ayuda en Acción, she has become an empowered entrepreneur, generating income and improving her family’s quality of life.
A similar story is that of Machal from Mozambique, who started raising chickens and selling eggs without great expectations, but saw her life transform when she began earning a profit. Today, thanks to Ayuda en Acción’s support, she has even been able to pay for her younger brother’s education.
In Portugal, Maria had always dreamed of sewing but never had the chance to learn until she joined our Women in Action project. Now, she has mastered the art of sewing and turned it into a source of income.
In El Salvador, Melania learned about sustainable farming and discovered her own strength as a woman. Today, she is a farmer, entrepreneur, and women’s rights advocate, building a better future for her community.
Finally, in Ecuador, Viviana trained as a cocoa taster and became a professional seeking to bring value to society. Thanks to Ayuda en Acción, she found the push she needed to move forward and transform her life.
Building a future of equality
Our work at Ayuda en Acción with women goes beyond providing training and acces to employment. We strive to foster sustainable value chains and create opportunities that transcend generations.
This March 8th, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting more women so they can write their own success stories. Because when one woman moves forward, an entire community moves with her.
